2011 Smokin Buck Ferton
|
|
From the manufacturer:
Who the F*#K is Buck Ferton?! Buck is Smokin’s favorite son. We’d buy him a private million dollar training facility in the backcountry if we weren’t so broke. Mr. Ferton is a snowboarder’s snowboarder. He’s pro for K-Mart, vowed only to do double corks this year, and donates all of his royalties back to the company. Buck Ferton; you just feel so right. His board is a snappy true twin with Clash Rocker. Buck rips and so does his signature shred sled.
Influences:
Doing it for the love of snowboarding, not being afraid to call out the BS, ultra pop off the lip, hiking the pipe, main park jump lines, GBA, cat track nollies, switch pillow lines, not moving your manufacturing to Austria.
About the Art:
This one is pretty straight forward. Clean simplistic design with a clear message: BUCK FERTON. We don't want to come off as bitter or jealous, we aren't hating just because they are the big guy. We would just like to point out the bullshit the industry is putting up with. Does anyone remember back in the day when Burton patented snowboarding and went around handing out bills to any other company? Go screw yourself misers. How about when they dropped their most prestigious pros on their asses after over a decade of breaking their necks for the team? Small shops get pushed under by gray market sales turning up in Costco from the big B. They enforce huge minimum orders for those shops so they can't diversify their budget and then sell all the same boards to the guys down the street. All the while they let the big box stores undersell the core shops in the name of huge margins. They used to make boards in the US, not 1 board is American made anymore. Is this what snowboarding is all about? This is 45% of our industry and we are supposed to just let it slide and let their tactics become the face of snowboarding to the public. We are not all clones, and we don't all aspire to be Olympic medalists, some of us just love shredding.

Smokin's favorite son, the Buck Ferton, is made for the park rat. Buck just wants to jib, spin and pop.
AJ sums it up nicely, "My favorite thing was how loose and stable it felt at the same time. I could engage and disengage really easily, but at high speeds I didn't feel like I was out of control." With super easy turning, this board is forgiving enough for park newbies, but also delivers the characteristics demanded by advanced riders that want a board that will respond and progress in the park.
